Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2: Install Service Based Architecture Web Components

Microsoft Dynamics GPWith the release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2 it’s time for a series of “hands on” posts where I go through the installation of all of it’s components; the index for this series can be found here.

Service Based Architecture (SBA) is a feature introduced in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 RTM which provides a REST web service which exposes Dynamics GP business logic as service operations.

The installation is a three part process, the previous post in this seriescovered adding the SBA feature to the desktop client on the web server, this post will cover the installation of the SBA web components and the next will cover the configuration.

To install the SBA Web Components on the web server, launch the Dynamics GP setup utility and, under Additional Products, click on Web Components:

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 setup utility

Accept the terms of the License Agreement and click Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: License Agreement

I am planning to only install the web components required for SBA in this post, so have selected Custom:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Installation Option

Mark Web Client as not installed, check and confirm the Install Location and click Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Select Feature

Enter the Server Name (this is the full SQL Server Instance Name of the server which is to hold the database) and Database Name (if you already have the web client installed you could, and probably should, use the same database) for the Web Components Database and select an authentication method.

If using SQL Authentication enter the Login ID and Password.

Click Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Web Components Database

SBA is maintained via the Web Management Console so the AD Group which has access needs to be specified in the Web Management Console Users field.

Click Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Windows User Group

I am not doing a multi-tenant installation so have left this stage unchanged and clicked Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Tenant Configuration

A Web Site for the Web Management Console needs to be selected.

Then enter the domain account which will be used as the application pool identity for the Dynamics GP Web Application. Enter a Domain, User Name and Password and click Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Web Management Console Configuration

The web components need to connect to the databases using a SQL server login. To do this, supply a SQL Server Login Name and Password and click Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: GP Configuration

Re-Enter the password entered on the previous stage and click OK:

Re-Enter Password

There are a few details required for the configuration of the GP Service.

First, verify you are happy to install using the 443 port; this is the only web type service installed on this server, so I have accepted this default.

Select an SSL certificate and enter the domain account used for the service account; this needs the Domain, User Name and Password.

Click Next:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: GP Service

The Dexterity Service Control requires the same settings as the GP Service configured in the last stage, except the default port is 48655:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Dexterity Service Control

Click Install to begin the installation:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Install Program

Once the installation is complete, click Exit:

Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Components: Installation Complete

Click to show/hide the Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2 Series Index

I must be getting old for I am having more of the Carousel experiences of life.

Take for instance that one of the benefits of getting older is that you get to walk into situations where you have been before. You have multiple similar experiences to draw from based on many other projects. It is a gift to clients, because some processes that are less efficient can be avoided and they get more cream of the crop (potentially).

So the thought of the day?

When defining user stories, gathering requirements, detailing out the current processes of the day. Think really, really hard about defining the specific issues, problems and current state without including the solution.

Ideally what you want is a team solution. A solution that pulls from the experiences of all members of the team. This is harder than it sounds, because it requires that each person really listens to and understands the full scope of the problem. It then requires that the team jointly agrees on the issue or problems and once agreed, solutioning can begin.

Solutioning will need to include the technical best choices and training among the team on the strengths and weakness as well as the business best choices.

Now in an ideal world this would all be done with any egos parked at the door, but rarely is this the reality. People have strong opinions. Humans are designed to compete or culturally trained to compete and thoughts outside of the comfort zones, make people uncomfortable. Mix in the awesome power of diversity and the energy can get very confused.

YET when this energy is aligned and diversity and multiple opinions come together as one. Amazing happens.

So keep stretching for Amazing  and keep learning, because the more we push ourselves to learn outside our comfort zones, the more we learn to listen and hear and the more we learn to share, the better the experiences will be!

Train at a station

I listened to Paul White at Directions 2016 last year and his assurances that the Microsoft Dynamics NAV market as we knew it was not going away. Dynamics 365 for Financials was a different and new market segment that, while growing rapidly, would grow alongside the traditional NAV market. Paul had figures from IDC to show that the business we had now would grow 1% in 2019. This was all about owning both, was his message.

At that time I believed him, but as 2017 beg...

Affordable Care Act Changes, Not A Repeal – Yet

$

Although there are plenty of headlines suggesting President-Elect Trump could repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), it hasn’t happened yet. In the meantime, businesses must continue to comply with the existing legislation. However, the IRS has made a slight change in deadlines and extended the good faith penalty relief to the 2016 information reporting process. Here’s what you should know...

As discussed in “Employers get a little more ACA leeway: What you need to know,” posted by Jared Bilski on HRMorning.com, the IRS extended a key deadline for ACA reporting. According to Notice 2016-70, employers must now provide individuals with 2016 Forms 1095-B and 1095-C on March 2, 2017. The deadline was originally slated for January 31, 2017. The IRS also extended the good faith penalty relief to the 2016 information-reporting process. However, this penalty relief does not mean that you don’t have to report – at most it means penalties may not apply if information on the forms is not quite correct.

Although the deadline for employers reporting to individuals has changed, the deadline for reporting information to the IRS has NOT changed. As we shared in our previous blog post, “Employers will NOT get a free pass on 2016 ACA Reporting,” the ACA legislation is complex and, 6 years after enactment, is firmly in place. Regardless of election results, the IRS reporting requirement for US employers will remain in place for the 2016 reporting season and most likely for the 2017 reporting season as well. Should ACA be changed or replaced under the new president, it will take considerable time and effort.

Be ACA Compliant With ACA Compliance Solution

In the meantime, ACA Compliance Solution offers businesses an easier path to the current compliance requirements. This powerful solution can be deployed rapidly, providing users with a quick and simple way to manage and report necessary ACA data. A central dashboard provides leaders with at-a-glance awareness of key performance indicators and alerts signify when it’s time to review or address a situation. ACA Compliance is deployed in the cloud, so you will never need to install updates or worry about any future legislative changes. The solution will remain aligned with the legislation as it evolves. Even more beneficial to businesses, this solution is a yearly pay-as-you-go subscription and won’t require you to invest more money than needed.

Strengthen ACA compliance measures by deploying a cutting-edge ACA compliance solution. Contact Integrity Data for guidance with meeting the current ACA reporting deadlines, and avoiding costly non-compliance penalties.

Dynamics 365 for Operations Carryout Item and Pick up item in same Customer Order

$

0

Dynamics 365 for Operations MPOS now allows cashiers to add both Carry out and Customer Order items on the same transaction. In previous versions of MPOS and EPOS, these required separate transactions for a cash and carry and one for a shipment\pick-up.

To create a transaction in MPOS that contains both a Carry Out item and a Shipment item, do the following:

In MPOS:

1.)  Add your items to the cart (0001 and 0002)

2.)  Add the customer to the cart (1001)

1

3.)  Select Orders
Note: that there is a operation button for “Carry out all”, “Carry out selected”, “Pick up all”, “Pick up selected”, “Ship all” and “Ship selected”.

2

4.)  Select the Pick up selected operation button
5.)  Select Customer order as the kind of order you want to create.
Note:  If you select Carry out selected first, you will be prompted to select the type of order you want to create and you will only receive the option of “Customer order”

3

6.)  Select the item you want to be your “Pick-up” item and click the OK checkbox

4
7.)  Select the store for the Pick-up, like you normally would for a Customer order

5

8.)  Select the date for the Pick-up
Note:  You can see you have the deposit for the one Pick-up item and the Pick up Delivery Method displays on the line.

7

9.)  Next, select Carry out selected
10.) Select the item that does not have the Delivery method.
11.) Click the OK button

8
The Total due now includes to the full amount for the Carry out and the deposit for the Pick up item.
12.) Tender the transaction to create the Customer Order

9
13.) For the Pick-up, select Recall order
14.) Select how you want to search for the order
I select search by customer number 1001
15.) Select the Customer Order that was just created and click Picking and packing
16.) Select Pick up

13
17.) In the Pick up products form, you should see the correct item to pick up and the Sales order number.  Click Pick up

14

18.) Pay the remaining deposit due.  The carry out item will have a 0.00 total.

19.) Tender the transaction

15
In Dynamics 365 for Operations:
Navigate to Accounts Receivable > Orders > All sales orders and select the Sales order
Note:  The Sales order was created with the Customer Order operation, so it was created with the Real Time Service.
The lines are Invoiced.
Note:  When a Cash and Carry is processed on a Customer Order, this is also processed Real-time and not created through the statement process.
